How To Recover From Liposuction Surgery

By Cheryl L. True

Liposuction surgery, like any other operation, demands recovery. It is typically considered a reliable procedure although, as with any surgery, there can be risks and complications and these shouldn't be left out when considering this procedure. Risks can include infection, bleeding, skin pigmentation changes, skin puckering and lidocaine toxicity. Even so, there are safeguards that you will be able to consider to avoid these.

Liposuction recovery is generally easy, quick and complication free. The recovery period begins as soon as the surgery is over and many people are able to return to work within three to ten days of their surgery, depending on the area of the body where the surgery was performed.

Some degree of irritation is normal days following the operation. During the first few weeks most people will go through some degree of pain, swelling and temporary numbness. You should abstain from any exercise other than walking for about a week after the procedure. Slowly resume your old exercise routine.

It is consequently very relevant that you make your doctor cognizant of any health issues you are going through so he can be fully prepared of any contrary reaction during or after the liposuction. People suffering from heart, lung or liver problems appear to be at bigger risk of complications. There have been many cases where failure to know the full medical record of a patient created grave complications during or after the operation that interfered with the successful liposuction recovery.

Anticipate some bruising after a liposuction procedure. This will normally last from a few days up to two weeks. Compression garments are generally worn for the first several days. These compression garments play a major role in liposuction recuperation.

It's also significant that the person experiencing the surgery is fit. When you go home after your cosmetic surgery procedure you will be given a list of instructions. Follow your doctor's instructions to assure a smoother recovery time.
