How Safe Is Botox?

By Virginia Anthony

Do you know the eventual side effects of Botox? Botox is very popular because it acts fast and does a wonderful job. It's not cheap but the easiness of use makes it in demand. Because the results don't last eternally the question persists if there are any side effects if you're applying Botox for a while.

Botox generally works for several months and thereafter you will get a different injection. There is without doubt that Botox works.

So far studies have demonstrated that little amounts of Botox do not harm even if used for a long time. The known effect of this drug is to lessen muscle action but there are other side effects of Botox that are not that severe.

Side effects include bruising at the site of injection. But don't fret; it's a side effect not of the toxin, but rather in the way of administration. In cosmetic use, this implies that the client will complain of improper facial expression such as drooping eyelid, uneven smile, and loss of ability to close the eye. This will wear out in around 6 weeks. Bruising is ruled out by the clinician by enforcing pressure to the injection site, but could still happen, and will last around 7 - 10 days.

Also a patient can expect that when injecting the masseter muscle of the jaw, loss of muscle function will result in a loss or lessening power to chew solid foods. All cosmetic treatments are of limited length, and can be as short a period as six weeks, but commonly one sees with an efficient period of between 3 and 8 months. At the extremely low doses enforced medicinally, botulinum toxin has a very low degree of toxicity.

Of course, beauty comes with a price and sacrifice. But if you want results Botox is a better choice than surgery since it is generally pain-free and an easier procedure.
