Gorgeous colored glaze items
Chinese Liuli, or "colored glaze," is a perfect integration of ancient culture and modern art. With more than two thousand years of history, Liuli is currently made using dewaxed casting and artificial crystals. The entire process may take up to 20 days for each figurine. Each one must be exquisite, bright and limpid.
In the Bai Gong Handicraft Museum near the Beijing Guang Xi Hotel, I found a shop named "Bai Yi De Kun." There are many gorgeous colored glaze items displayed in the shop. Also, they offer many necklaces, pendants, and bracelets.
The shop assistant told me that Liuli is very durable and as hard as jade. The hottest item in the shop is a pendant named "Yuan Meng," which means "realizing one's dream." I liked its beautiful, translucent blue circular ring that matched a 14K white gold necklace. It was so mysterious and gorgeous, and that's why it was so popular.
There are also many things you could give as a gift, such as a Peking Opera-decorated folding screen. I had a very good time in this shop!
Do you like fancy silverware?
If you like silverware, I recommend a little shop near the Beijing NingXia Hotel that has sterling silver flatware, silver accessories, and amber ware, all at very good prices. They even have some antiques mixed in with their modern designs!
When you first visit the shop, maybe you will feel their products look the same as those in other shops. But if you look carefully, you will notice the special material and exquisite craftsmanship of Nepal, India, and Tibet.
I liked a classic silver ring the best. It had a 4mm square gem in the middle with 2.5mm stones on the sides that had alternating blue and clear colors. The price for this polished ring was only RMB 388.
Prices for the products there range generally from RMB 10 to RMB 1,000. The shop owner himself is from Nepal and speaks a little English. He knows nearly everything about the products and will help you to find the right fit.
