Ten Tips For Using Sunblock

Sunblock is used by millions to help stop sun burn and skin cancer. However, if you do not have the proper sunscreen, it will not stop sun burn or skin cancer. Using these tips, you can stop sunburn and protect yourself against skin caner.

Tip #1 Use Sun Block With A SPF Of 30 Or Higher

SPF 30 provides protection for most of the day. For example if you get sun burn in 10 minutes, SPF 30 will protect you for 300 minutes. If you use SP 15, you will be protected from the sun for 150 minutes.

Tip #2 Use Sunblock That Offer Broad Spectrum Protection

Sunblock with broad spectrum protection provides a defense against UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays exist even if there is no sun out. These rays may potential cause skin cancer. UVB rays exist when the sun comes out. These rays can cause sun burn and skin cancer if the skin is left unprotected.

Tip #3 Sunbock Needs To Be Applied Frequently To Offer Proper Protection

Sunblock is made less effective over time in water. This even happens to water proof sunblock. Apply sunblock liberally and often if you are close to water. Once time per hour should be the minimum. Use the sunblock day after day.

Tip #4 Apply Sunscreen in the shade.

This is because UVA rays are present even when there is no direct sun light.

Tip #5 Be Sure To Avoid Sun Block That Contain Oxybenzone

Oxybenzone is a toxic sunscreen that soaks into the skin which might be a contributing factor to skin cancer. Instead look for sunscreen that contains Zinc Oxide or Titanium Oxide.

Tip #6 Get New Sunblock Every Year

Most sun screen do not protect as well after 12 months because the ingredients start to lose the amount of sun protection that they can give.

Tip #7 Take Some Time Off At 12:00PM

Midday or peak sun is also a good time to get out of the sun and take a break indoors. The sun is strongest at this point. The sun is strongest between 12:00PM and 3:00PM.

Tip #8 Wear Sun Glasses, Hats And Tight Shirts

UV sunglasses protect your eyes from the sunlight, scalp protection can be achieved by wearing a hat and a tight shirt protects your body from the sun light.

Tip #9 Be Extra Careful When Going To The Beach

Sunblock needs to used much more frequently when going to the beach. The sand and water increase the strength of the sun light. Higher altitudes also see an increase in the strength of the sun.

Tip #10 Keep Your Body Hydrated With Water

Your skin stays hydrated and the defense of your sunscreen increases if you drink plenty of water.
