Don't Skimp On Your Breast Lift Surgeon

By Cathy Howard

What you pay for a breast lift is a combination of three professional fees: the anesthesia fee, the clinic fee and the surgeon's fee. The surgeon's fee is the most difficult to estimate without first determining what the procedure will entail and the professional certifications of the plastic surgeon.

When thinking about a breast lift and its cost, you must always remember that it is not a simple surgical procedure, and haggling for the lowest professional fees while forgoing the quality, background and experience of the surgeon is a huge miscalculation. It's a must that you find a board-certified plastic surgeon from the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Each breast surgery will vary in difficulty and technique, so it's not smart to ask, "how much will the breast lift cost?" before your surgeon has done a pre-surgery examination you, which will include recording your breast size and shape, and discussing your concerns and expected results.

The typical cost of a breast lift can be from $3,500 to $6,000 depending on the surgeon and the amount of work that will be done. Fees for anesthesia can have you paying anywhere from $1,000 to $1,300. The facility fee or clinical is usually around $500 to $1,500. The remainder will be the surgeon's fee, and that will really vary depending on what you and your surgeon agree on.

If more than one operation is done at the same time, then the total cost will be much higher, but still less than if the surgery is to be conducted individually. If the procedure is performed on smaller breasts, where fewer incisions are required, then the surgeon's fee may be lower.

Of course, if the breast lift is done and you want to be fitted with breast implants, the fees will be more expensive. Recognizing that breast lift surgery is most often performed for cosmetic reasons, it is rarely covered by health plans. When you consult with your plastic surgeon for the initial conference, inquire about what payment options you could have to pay for the operation.
