What Can A Cosmetic Dentist Do for You?

By Rudy Giordano

There is one main difference between a regular and a cosmetic dentist. This difference is, a regular dentist is considered necessary to health, whereas cosmetic dentistry is considered to be an elective procedure, not necessary to health. Maybe so, but it is necessary to emotional well being and the much needed restoration of self confidence. But, because it is elective, and not usually covered by health insurance plans except in cases of injury, such as the result of a car accident for instance, there may be payment plans available to choose from.

One very popular procedure a cosmetic dentist will perform is teeth whitening. When teeth become stained by every day items such as coffee, tea, nicotine and wine, they become unsightly, and then it is difficult to remove the stains even with tooth brushing. This is why having the teeth professionally bleached, eliminates the problem and will last for at least a month or more.

Technology has increased dramatically in the dental world, such as the invention of lasers, porcelain fillings which match teeth exactly, the building up of small teeth to normal size, and the restorative procedures completed to brighten a smile.

These treatments are usually undertaken with short office visits and literally no down time so, with almost all treatments performed by a cosmetic dentist, the patient may return directly to work to finish out the day if desired.

Some of the treatments and procedures performed by a cosmetic dentist are composite bonding which helps build up teeth which have become cracked, broken, or a cavity has caused loss of the tooth enamel. This greatly improves the appearance of the patient and seals off the teeth prohibiting any more decay or damage.

There are many products and the newest technology available today which allows a natural and more attractive smile to be achieved. Porcelain veneers and crowns are made of stronger materials than ever, which means they will last a very long time, usually between eight and twenty years.
